Perhaps they absorb their nutrients through their skin, like most people get vitamin D. That's the only thing I can think of.

Huh. A possibility. They would have to have some sort of cell that converts sunlight, but maybe the cell doesn't need to be plant-like.

I'm more concerned with how they get nitrogen. Will they eat dirt?

There are certain foods that have a lot of nitrogen. Soy, fish/meat, some veggies. Fruit provides very little. In desperate situations, they would have to eat dirt!
